Spring Rubbers
Spring rubbers are popular in major motorsport categories including but not limited to V8 Supercars and NASCAR. We regularly use them when we assist customers on test days to make informed decisions for setup adjustments.
The spring rubbers we stock suit 2.25/2.5 Inch ID springs and 60/65mm ID springs.
These are designed to be fitted in the between the coil wires of the springs. Multiple rubbers of various rates can be installed on long springs.
On springs that have load on them at full droop, we suggest removing some of the load by winding the spring collar away from the spring, fit the rubber and then reset the collar.
By inserting the rubber, you will change the rate by a percentage dependent on the stiffness of the spring rubber. By changing the rate, the ride height may also alter a few millimetres similar to changing to a stiffer spring or softer spring.
Values may vary slightly depending on the quality & accuracy of the coil spring design. As a guide, the rubber hardness will increase the coil spring rate by the following percentage -
- Red 43 GMS - 4.0%
- White 49 GMS - 5.5%
- Blue 57 GMS - 6.5%
- Yellow 62 GMS - 8.0%
- Green 80 GMS - 12.0%
Often a cheaper option in fine tuning the balance of the car before spending money on new springs of the desired rate.
The placement of the spring rubber on the coil spring (at either end or the middle) may change the characteristic of the spring rate change. For an additional fee, we can check & test spring rate/rubber combinations.
